Fall on the Farm

The calendar will be turning to October this week already. It seems like time is slipping thru my hands like sand in an hourglass. September was a crazy, busy month filled with harvest, farm chores, road trips, drs appointments and excitement for things to come. And I know October will be no different. We have so many exciting things coming up in October (my 2nd favourite month of the year!) Beginning with this week when we take a road trip of a lifetime. Its been in the works since the middle of Summer and it is something I am doing for myself and I am so grateful that my little family is coming along for the ride. If you follow me on Instagram, you will be able to follow along as we go!!

This morning I woke up to sunshine and a light breeze, so headed out to mow my lawn for what may be one of the last times this year. I couldn't help but wish I had brought mittens for myself as my hands were freezing!! The weather has changed drastically this weekend. We have had Summer like temps these last couple of weeks, which has allowed us to finally finish harvest (yay!) but now the rains are on the horizon and Fall is officially settling in

I use a zero turn mower to cut my 1 acre yard and it gives me exactly 45 mins to zone out and think about anything and everything. Usually my To Do list comes to mind but today, I dreamt about everything I wanted to achieve this Fall/Winter. I thought about filling my home up with the scents of spice as I create gooey, delicious treats from the farmhouse kitchen and dreamt about having a wood burning fireplace in our living room and the sound of the wood crackling as we snuggled underneath our homemade afghans and told stories of our days..

and then I thought about dressing up Hudson in the cutest plaid shirt and taking him outside while I rake leaves only to have him sit and play with them and shriek as he enjoys the sounds of the crunching underneath him..

which of course then led me to get excited about his very first halloween and dressing him up in his cute little costume. Or going out to the pumpkin patch and picking pumpkins as a family while sipping warm apple cider to keep our bodies going as the air gets crisp..

I have loved fall for as long as I can possibly remember but this year? This year just feels so much more exciting. I took Hudson outside the other week and sat him on the grass next to a fallen leaf and watched him as he picked it up, examined it, smiled and giggled (then proceeded to eat it, of course)
showing your baby all his firsts in the world is such a privilege. How on earth did we get so lucky?

yes Fall has come to the farm again and I couldn't be more excited. I grab my camera daily and walk around to capture everything I can to sum up how I see the beauty around me. heck today I was basking in the smell of autumn and trying to figure out how to describe it. Musky? Earthy? well, if you love the outdoors as much as I do, then you know what I am talking out. That smell of autumn should be bottled and kept forever..if only I could

this October I plan to:

- make caramel apples
- research apple varieties to grow in our climate and find a reliable nursery to order from for next    Spring
- celebrate thanksgiving with my family (so much to be thankful for)
- finish pulling the flower beds, pulling bulbs to save for next year
- make a list of flower seeds to order this Winter
- plant Fall garlic and Spring bulbs
- go on a roadtrip with my family
- take my family to a pumpkin patch and corn maze
- book our winter trip to Hawaii
- take Halloween photos for clients
- dress Hudson up for his very first halloween and do a little photoshoot
- carve pumpkins
- bake...a lot!
- celebrate my farmers' birthday
- celebrate halloween

you guys..I am so so SO excited for October. Lets keep our fingers crossed for warm, golden afternoons, cool, crisp evenings, lots of pumpkin flavoured goodies and warm and cozy evenings snuggled under blankets with loved ones

Happy Sunday everyone!

hello, October

Ahh, sweet Autumn. My favorite time of the year! The sights, the smells, the colours, the change that occurs all around us. The sweaters, the hot drinks to warm our tingly fingers, the crisp morning air, the crunch of leaves underfoot..Autumn, I have been waiting for you!

Its no secret that a huge perk of being Canadian is the drastic change in seasons that we are priviledged to witness. Sure the snow that follows Autumn isn't always wanted ( I LOVE snow from November to February, but then I'm done with it and it can go away any time) but Sept/Oct is the time of year I look forward to most every year! October is my 2nd favorite month, December being my 1st of course ;)

Every morning I wake up, feed Jakey and my chickens and then we get out and enjoy our 2 mile walk (I've been walking 2 miles again every day!) and I can't help but revel in the crispness thats in the air, the crunch of the leaves under my feet and the sweet smell in the air, it just makes me giddy

As the leaves around our farm have been slowly changing the last 2 weeks, I have been taking leisurely strolls around the yard, taking photos of all the beauty that surrounds us..I cannot wait to get these in to my Project Life album!!

every day I walk past this old car in a field and I was so glad I had my phone with me to snap this photo, it turned out so pretty!!

pretty trees, all in a row!

I recently harvested all my pumpkins, ain't they purdy??

*sigh*

the boys on one of our strolls

I just look at these photos and think, I'm so lucky to live here! Its just gorgeous this year!

And, of course, Fall just isn't Fall without a little interior decor, now is it? I decorated our home last week and changed it in to a Fall/Halloween filled space and I'm so happy with the results, heres a little peek at this years decor

Have you decorated your home yet? I'd love to see it!! Link up in the comments below and I'll be sure to stop by and take a peek!! Have a wonderfully cool & crisp Tuesday everyone!!

Can you feel it?

There's a crispness in the air these last few days .. the mornings are cool and the evenings bring a feeling of frost in the air.. can you feel it?

Autumn is on its way. And with that, a very giddy girl here :) You see, Autumn is my FAVORITE season of the year...its just, magical to me! And this year is no exception..I am getting married in 48 days to the love of my life, we are planning a magical honeymoon and I have a LOT to be thankful for this year. Bring on the season!

There are yellowing leaves all around me and while it makes me panic a little (fingers are crossed for a beautiful Nov. 5th day for our wedding) it makes me want to push harvest along so Adam and I can go out for one of our many nature walks with the camera to see what we can capture in all its Autumn glory!

What are you most looking forward to this Autumn season?

Hello October!

It's here, my favorite month of the year!! Add that it's Friday and you've got one giddy lady ;) If you've been reading my posts lately, it comes as no surprise to you that Autumn is my favorite time of year! The cozy blankets, the cool, crisp mornings, raking the leaves and coming in for a nice mug of hot chocolate, the pumpkins and changing colors of trees, the scarecrows and dried cornstalks..ugh, its just magical!!

And if you remember this post, today I begin recording my month's adventures! I have my journal, my binder & sheet protectors..can't wait to get started!! So, what are you up to on this beautiful first weekend of October? Tomorrow I will be participating in the World Card Making Day celebrations, can't wait to see what everyone has in store for us! And then Sunday I will be at the Bustin Loose Race to End Breast Cancer event..this is an amazing local fundraiser that my coworker began with her friends 5 years ago to support breast cancer research. This year we are expecting 500 participants..a sea of pink! I will be posting photo's of the event on Monday..don't miss it!!

Have a great Friday everyone, I'll see you tomorrow! Til then, happy crafting!!

Random Friday Thoughts

So I'm sitting here..thinking I should post something, but not sure what to post..so I'm going to write out my random thoughts and send them out to you in blogland! I have a few new creations from my studio to share, but haven't taken the photos to upload them yet..so I guess that'll have to wait til next week now! I'm headed back to the farm to visit Adam after work today..funny how 5 days can leave you missing someone so much! So excited to hit the road and drive to that farm and see him and Simon their retriever standing there, waiting for me, tail wagging (Simons, not Adam!)

On my mind today? Hmm..Autumn, pumpkins, changing leaves, the colors of yellow, orange and red, cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks, fuzzy warm Ugg boots, Gilmore Girls and sunshine..it all makes me very, very happy

Also I'm trying to decide if its normal that every year around this time I always wish I had a black cat as a pet. Not sure why considering I'm allergic and, well, they kind of scare me with their creepy yellow eyes..but I always think to myself that it would be nice to have one..hmm, maybe I can convince Adam to have one on the farm?!?

What do YOU love about Autumn? I'm getting pretty excited to start my October journal next week..so much ahead of me next month..Bustin Loose race for Breast Cancer next weekend, mom and dad's 32nd wedding anniversary, Thanksgiving (here in Canada), Adam's Birthday and, of course, Halloween!!

Have a great weekend everyone!! I'll be back on Monday!!

Autumn 2010

Last night I came home from work, loaded my camera and Jakey up in my car and took off to take some pictures of the changing leaves around me. It's been years since I went out with the main purpose of photographing things and let me tell you, it made me very happy! I drove in to the same parks I've visited for years, walked around and gathered images that spoke to me and made a plan to visit these same spots once a week for the rest of Fall to capture the season in all its glory

Taking the time to stop and photograph these images was good for my soul. Besides fighting with Jake over which direction to go in to, my mind was still and peaceful and just like any other time I'm creating, I really felt like I was in my element

So, here's the plan: every Thursday I will be back to post pictures of Autumn in my neighborhood..I'll document the changing of the seasons and reflect on how quickly things can change in a week's time..until next week, I'll be curling up with a good book, clean up the remaining foilage in the yard and indulging in one too many pumpkin spice latte's..

Autumn Splendor

Something was off this morning when my alarm woke me up..the sun wasn't up! There was a strange chill in the air, a dampness from the rain during the night and when I looked out my window I saw my first yellow leaf! Now, I'd like to tell you that the sight of this little guy scared the heck out of me, but I'd be lying :) You see, you can't get more of a Fall lover than me and when I saw this I knew that pumpkins and mums in every color would soon be following and, well, that just makes me giddy!!

So, last night I sat down at my desk to create a few cards for my Etsy shop, I had no real plan in mind but quickly I realized I wanted an Autumn-inspired card and this is what came out of it. I absolutely LOVE it!! It's warm and cozy and the colors remind me of walking down an orange & yellow leafy lane in October

I used DP from Recollections (Michaels), CS from PTI, vintage image from my stash a sweet paper doilie and, my personal favorite, these wonderful fabric leaves I found last year!!

Now I'm off to Calgary with my mom to see Michael Buble in concert tonight..I'm very, very excited about this!! But, I'll be back on Friday with something of a jingle bell variety ;)Until then... Happy Crafting everyone!!
