the week in farm photos - February 2nd to February 8th

Happy Sunday, friends!!!

This was a crazy good week for us here at the farm!! We honoured & celebrated my dads life on the 2nd anniversary of his death on Tuesday, on Wednesday we celebrated 31 years of my life (I still feel 25, is that odd?!?), we have had snow this week, rain, and sunshine..everything has been thrown at us but one thing is for sure - it definitely feels like Spring today and I am LOVING it!! A few weeks back, Adam left for the city while Hudson and I watched over the farm solo. It was a good week but I ended up having one too many problems with a few coyotes so I asked Adam to teach me how to properly load, carry and shoot a firearm..and this week we finally got to it! I'd say for a newbie that my aim was pretty dang good ;) Today we culled the last 2 roosters from this Springs hatching..its been a long time coming and today just felt like the day! We have been wandering around outside with our rubber boots on and light jackets. I have all the windows open in our farmhouse and I am dreaming of Spring! Today I ordered seeds and made plans for my clothes line and cutting gardens..have I mentioned I love living on a farm? Or Spring? or gardening? 'cause I do! I really, really do!! Here's a small peek at life here this week..

it never fails..the skies over our farm get me every time!!

this little man marked 1 month post op this week and I couldn't be more proud of him and his recovery..such strength babies have!!

as mentioned above..this week I learned how to properly shoot a rifle..I don't appreciate coyotes going after my chickens one bit and this should help!!!
not bad aim for a former city girl, eh?

my ladies have ramped up production and this week I sold my first 10 dozen eggs..so excited!!
the stores are stocking up on tulips and I am biting the bullet hard these days..love filling our farmhouse with fresh signs of Spring!!

most definitely the biggest part of this week is that my farmer has been taking a lot of time out to work on a big, very special project that is just for little old me...anyone want to take a guess as to what that might be?!? (photo below is your hint!! More to come soon!)

so that was our first full week of February! As I type this the wild birds are chirping on all four sides of our home, the sun is slowly setting and I am enjoying a cup of tea and taking in the beauty of this Sunday..hope you all enjoyed your weekends!!! Here's to another full week on the docket...

and then winter came back..

Friday night we enjoyed a golden hour so lovely, I actually believed Spring was around the corner. We went out for a walk and put Hudson in his still-too-big rubber boots and tried to show him how to splash in the little puddles..it felt like a dream and I absolutely soaked every minute of that evening with my boys up..

and then we carried on with our evening routines until, eventually, we fell deep asleep..

...and woke up to Winter

yes I knew it was still January and yes I knew we were still in the midst of Winter..but for 2 glorious weeks it felt like April around here and, I have to say, I was getting quite used to the 'no jacket required' weather! But it has now been snowing for 24 hours straight and things are looking a little bleak here on the farm once again..

... well, the Spring-like weather was fun while it lasted...hello old man Winter, once again...

the week in farm photos - November 17th - November 23rd

welcome to another week in our little life in the country! This week, we spent a large portion of our time in the city visiting my mom and driving to the children's hospital for Hudson's check up. It was a big appointment that I was nervous for and, unfortunately, we received some heartbreaking news about our sweet little man.  Its been a few days now and things have settled in and we feel a bit better about where we stand..just not exactly ready to discuss our situation yet so please just keep my sweet baby in your prayers! Otherwise..just normal life for us here on the farm..we started renovating our basement {which was in dire need of some TLC} and started its journey to becoming my future craft area/studio and I am oh so grateful for it! We also set up our Christmas tree yesterday because I just didn't want to wait any longer! I was craving those quiet mornings by the tree before my boys woke up and this morning, it happened!
Speaking of quiet mornings...ever heard the expression, "quiet as a mouse"? Yeah...I am pretty quiet in the mornings...so quiet that I happened to be enjoying a quiet morning yesterday when a mouse decided to scurry across my kitchen floor!! I immediately jumped up, got Adam out of bed and we began the great mouse hunt of 2014. Thankfully we soon caught the little bugger...only to find another one under my kitchen sink!! And thankfully again, he fell for our trap over night and now we are hopefully once again a mouse free home. I don't like mice more than anyone else does but hey, thats farm life for ya ;)

Anyways, here is a peek at our week here on the farm:

As i mentioned previously, we started our basement renovations this week. Now, I wouldn't normally want to share the below photos to just anyone but..I am going to be so proud of this room when we are finished it and to completely appreciate it..you need to know what we started with. And yes, that carpet..I know...*shudder*

I cannot wait to finish this area and post an "After" shot...

Thank you again for stopping by on your Sunday, I truly appreciate all of you! And thank you in advance for your thoughts/prayers for our son..he is healthy and happy and we are just looking at this latest development as a speed bump, nothing more. And just a heads up that we will be away next weekend so my weekly wrap up will be held off til we return to the farm later in the week. Have a great Sunday everyone, keep warm!!

the week in farm photos - November 10th to November 16th

this week in farm photos may just as well be called "the snow globe week" as they all have to do with our first major snowfall of the season and old man winter made himself at home for what will probably end up being at least another 6 months..like I said before, I *love* winter from November - January..and then I'm done. Ready to garden...*sigh* if only that were so..

Anyways..here is our snowy week on the farm!!!

the view from my living room this week..

with all this snow fall this week, I kind of had to turn on the lights, run outside after putting Hudson to sleep and take in the glorious sight of the holidays at our farmhouse..

Last October, I had to pack up all of our belongings so that we could move over here to the farmhouse before the baby came. Well, we moved and reno'd the farmhouse a little, had Christmas and then moved right on to baby! And I haven't really unpacked a single crafty box..until now. The urge to get back to my usual creativity has been building up with the holiday season around the corner and I even (finally) started a few of the projects that have been on my to do list!

on Friday night, we enjoyed a crab leg feast as a way of celebrating wrapping up our 2014 harvest back in October. Hudson didn't partake in the seafood (yet) but we did have to measure the size of the crab legs next to his 26" body ;)

and that was our snowy week here on the farm. Thank you so much for stopping by again everyone! Happy Sunday and keep warm!!
