the weekend lens

we arrived home on the farm Friday evening and I can't even explain to you how comforting it felt to pull into our yard. My dogs were happily barking and chasing our truck and I understood then how much this farm means to me. this weekend we were blessed with beautiful Spring-like weather, to which we played outside as much as we could. playing with our flock of chickens, cleaning up our yard from winter, swinging off the old tree, cooking meals on the bbq and getting my hands in the dirt to begin seeds again for this summers garden. the birds are happily chirping, the snow has almost disappeared (for now, at least) and our farm smells of musty earth and wet grass..I find myself looking for robins and meadowlarks..knowing that this could all too soon leave us for another wintry spell. but for now..I'm soaking up this sunny Spring weather. here's a look at our weekend thru my lens..

Weekend Recap

If I had to choose one word to sum up my weekend, it would be: gardening!!  The weather has finally started warming up enough to truly get in the dirt and make things grow. The majority of my time this weekend was spent helping my mother in law around the yard tidying up the beds, pruning trees and raspberry canes and of course tending to my own veggie garden which has started sprouting already, believe it or not! Of course my weekend wasn't complete without some chicken fun too..my little babies are 5 weeks old today, hard to believe!! They are doing very well and this morning we moved them in to their coop where they will be spending the rest of their blissful lives! They will be staying in their cardboard box this week, getting used to their surroundings and what not and then {hopefully} next week we will start building a pen for them and get them in to their big girl home full time. I'm pretty excited to see them out there now, having chickens in a chicken coop makes it that much more real now compared to hiding in a corner in the shop! So exciting!! Alright, so here is my weekend in photos:

We moved the chicken coop in place on Friday

Our water isn't hooked up yet so I'm hauling water to my garden..its getting old fast

I rec'd confirmation that a few more cards of mine will be published this year!

We cleaned the flower beds

A neighbor gave us 21 new strawberry plants that we temporarily planted in old washtubs tils we figure out where we'd like a berry patch

We prepped 1500 new trees for planting

I went thru my magazines and organized/recycled them..finally!

We pruned trees..

I pruned raspberry canes

I took this guy for a swim in the dugout

I brought this guy lunch while he rolled lentils

I snuggled lots with this guy

I bonded more with Eleanor and showed her the 'great outdoors'

All in all it was a fantastic weekend. Wonderful, warm weather..getting my hands in the dirt and spending time with loved ones {human, furry and feathered}

Before I sign off, I couldn't resist showing you a photo of one of my 5 week old Plymouth Barred Rocks...seriously, are they not GORGEOUS?! *sigh*

Happy Monday everyone!!

Weekend Moments

Well, my weekend didn't work out quite as planned {surprise, surprise}
I found out on Friday that my chicks never arrived {they will be here today instead} and that changed my plans for going home to celebrate Easter with my family and take part in our annual Easter egg hunt {boo!} Pretty disappointed in how things worked out but a decent weekend none-the-less. On Friday we were hit with a major snow storm that kept me inside, happily crafting away in my studio. Saturday we lived in a winter wonderland so, of course, I made sure to capture it via my IPhone for Project Life ;) Then yesterday, Easter, was probably the weirdest Easter of my life..pretty much felt like any other Sunday (which, if you know me, you'd know that if any holiday doesn't live up to my expectations..I am not a happy camper). Thankfully, Adam made my day as good as he possibly could! He took me for a drive to see all the baby animals that have been arriving steadily in the last few months (calves, lambs..so cute!) .. and that..was my weekend

Our Winter Wonderland

Our 1st Easter as Newlyweds

We've finally started spotting robins! This one..possibly the fattest we've ever seen!

Enjoying the baby chick sugar cookies I made!

Have a great Monday everyone!!!

Hello April!!

I am so excited that April is here...Spring is in the air, our new machinery has arrived for seeding and I just have a feeling that this coming month is going to be awesome..

This weekend, my parents came down for their first over-night stay at the farm and we could not have been more excited! Of course, the visit went much too quickly and I missed them before they even left the driveway..but my gosh was it ever nice to have them here while we did!! I hope your weekend was as wonderful as ours!!

The boys and I walked and enjoyed the beautiful songs by our resident Meadowlarks

Mom & Dad came!!

Simon made sure my dad went right to work..

Jakey went for his 1st ride in the back of a truck {& loved it!}

Our new tractor arrived!

This guy experienced egg dyeing for the 1st time in 20 years!!

Mom taught me how to make fried chicken...mmmm

and now we're ready for Easter!!

I am loving my weekend recaps on Mondays! Its so much fun to go over my photos and truly realize what our everyday moments entail!! Plus its a great way of record keeping for my Project Life album ;) I hope you all have a wonderful Monday - see you tomorrow!!
